She doesnt try just to over-embellish the songs by unnecessary vocal gymnastics, or to show off her vocals skills just to awe the audience by oversinging and sucking out all the emotions the song may convey that way. She has her own, natural, unpolished style and just tries to compliment the songs and express the emotions they convey. You know, the intention of a good singer shouldnt be to present herself, but the song. And thats what Adele does brilliantly and what makes her superior.

That's not what Mariah does either though and there's more than one way to show emotion. Belting is just as effective in conveying emotion. Either way that doesn't make Adele more "soulful". I love Adele though so I'll stop. lol

your need to down grade the female legends" Whitney, Celine, Whitney" for forcing an alleged opinion is too much !! typical a madonna fan . the fact u believe Adele is a "soul" singer tells it all she just make generic pop ballad or adult contemporary music , nothing special, vocal gymnastic is something adele can not do coz she CAN"T not as u make it as clever style of hers lol. and all these ladies also convey emotions through having diverse singing styles especially Mariah. Mariah has many songs where she just sings words without using the high notes, it is your ignorance who thinks that mariah's 14 album consist of super belting on every song!!
anyway adele is good vocalist , she can be compared to Amy Whinehouse though the latter is more outstanding and has better musical identity than adele.

Belting is of course effective in conveying emotions, but only when you do it rightly. Overdoing it ruins the song and thats exactly my point.

lol @ you not knowing the difference between soul music and soulful singing.
Anyway, comparing Adele to Amy instead of Mariah or Celine is much more apropriate (even when Amy was more outstanding than all the girls mentioned in this thread combined), nice compliment

What a loaded statement. It's obvious to me now that you know nothing about vocals and vocalists.
As you said yourself, Adele coveys the tone of her music by the way she emotes and that makes her a "good singer". The thing is, no one here is disagreeing with that. However, what you fail miserably to realize is that Mariah and Whitney were not "good singers", they were some of the greatest vocalists of all time.
For future reference:
- A vocalist uses his/her voice like an instrument and he/she is able to fully utilize their voice in ways that demonstrates their skills, agility, texture, tone, range, and so forth. An exception vocalists excels beyond that.

A great singer has great ears. All of the runs and melisma are possible because they have a great sense of pitch. They can hear the chords and sing all around, inside, and through them. Those interesting vocal runs just come out because they have great ears. On top of that, with vocal coaching and/or practice they can really hone their craft and do some amazing things.
A great voice is born, not made. You’re either born with a beautiful sound coming out of your mouth, or you’re not.

she is not a "soulful' singer either, she just makes generic adult pop ballads using her tone which makes the impression of singing soulful style, she does not have the soulful singer pause on stage also, she just stands still without giving any physical emotions,
on live shows, she has so many flaws that makes her way beneath Amy whinhouse who is a soulful singer

She's good and likeable, but people have always gone too far with her. Let her just be Adele. Not the saviour of all music/rival of the greatest vocalists/Real Artist etc.

What?
Soulful singing is about emotions and expression, it doesnt apply to specific technique or genre, unlike your claims. Adele certainly is a soulful singer.
And all the imperfections and cracks make her singing just more unique and beautiful.
