While witnessing the events of the last 3 days in Paris i couldn't stop remembering 9/11, i was an 8 year old boy who barely understood what was going on back then, i knew it was bad, my parents were concerned, all channels were covering it, people were crying, and as weeks came by i actually gave myself an image that what had happened was an act of cruelty that caused the death of thousands of people. It wasn't an accident.
Back then my GodMother(also my aunt) used to live in NYC but after those events she moved in for a few of months, she was downtown when it all happened, she spend weeks crying and going to the doctor becuase of a recurrent cough she would have at night. I still remember her face, it was fear.
I can't help but to think how scared Paris must be at the moment, to think that almost 20 inocent people died just because some Murderers decided to, just because they decided to seed terror into one of the most peaceful places to live. It all feels so much like then, New York is the states' most important city(just like Paris is Europe's) and just like then it was taken by surprise, and to my regret, just like then this is most likely to cause a reduction in the freedom of european citizens, because fear causes us to be more protective and controlling.
I know it may sound silly to compare both attacks, 9/11 was a massified attack, but can you really think that fear was not as equally transmitted? Or was it not enough to see the world's biggest destination completely taken over by military and police forces?
No. This is France own tragedy. Some americans need to stop making it all about them. Instead of making a thread comparing two tragedies, inform yourself about what happened and spread the word.
Since Paris is the biggest tourist destination in the world and now people are thinking twice before visiting the city, yes it has an impact on liberty.
I wouldn't say so, the only thing those events have in common is that they're both very sad and awful. I actually agree with those saying that comparing the two tragedies is wrong. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Edit: Ok, reading some comments in here I'm literally disgusted.
