OMG Touch! finally somebody who loves that song on ATRL, is amazing one of my favorite producers of 2014! and I love 2 On too, that song was a big grower!
Rationale: Brooke is kind of like this weird, drag-gay hip-hop muse. Opulence was seen by some as a misfire for her but it's actually exactly what she's been doing all along - except with a better director and producers. Brooke is much like Gaga in that you should consider the bigger picture when listening to a song (the video is just as important, the outfits, what she's saying about the song, etc). She's meta gay hip hop / trap and it's really interesting to see where she'll go. Unlike Iggy, she doesn't have a 'blaccent'. She literally sounds like a white girl who raps on all her songs so there's more authenticity to it. Besides, she's from LA (not down under) they all love hip hop over there - black, white whatever.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - The Flaming Lips, Moby & Miley Cyrus
Rationale: Miley and The Flaming Lips works about 100x better than The Flaming Lips and that girl from 'Tick Tock'. But throw in Moby, too and we've got something really odd/unexpected. The Beatles probably hate that this exists but they'll have to deal because it's that good. I usually hate corny covers but this is really a re-work and something brand new rather than a cover. Miley's vocals are beautiful and flawless. Bangerz proved she knew how to get people shook but people shouldn't forget how talented she genuinely is.

Need U (Original Mix) - Unicorn Kid
Rationale: Unicorn Kid is a really unique electro star. He's like a GameBoy color being used to DJ at a Chicago underground club. Need U is his best song, period. He's got a back catalog of really rudimentary video game-esque bops but this song proves he's been growing up as a producer. Can't wait to hear what he's doing in 2015
Rationale: Been a real fan since I heard Take Care's inspiration / sample I'll Take Care of U with Gil Scott Heron. AUORR is a unique and obviously British DJ creation but it's got this weird worldly feel to it as well. Far Nearer remains his best work outside of The xx but he's definitely still got it.

FROOT - Marina & the Diamonds
Rationale: FROOT is a campy, goofy, sweet song. I love it! It sounds like a twisted diva'd video game adventure in Pac Man or maybe Crash Bandicoot. It's a really good pop song that the US will never embrace because it loves garbage like Roar, Counting Stars or Take Me to Church but it's still better than pretty much 90% of pop released in 2014. Pre-order FROOT now! 🍇🍌🍎

G# - Kitten
Rationale: Kitten is like Sky Ferreira but with Marina's vocals and Hole's bad attitude. She's really straight-forward pop but manages to not sound katy'd or pink'd. G# is moody, atmospheric pop with her Grimes-y feathery vocals with added reverb going on almost as a background to the instrumentation. One of my favorite pop songs this year and I congratulate her for at least attempting to mix rock with pop in a way that isn't a corny One of the Boys hack job or a boring adult contemp Pink mess.
