Taylor is a selling monster with a huge loyal fanbase. She's also known for her good albums. Going pop expanded her audience too.

That excuse was only used by stans of certain singles artists. It's false. Pop songs DO sell albums.

Pop songs SELL albums, see Beyoncé's pop album selling 8m in 2008 and being her 2nd best selling album.

1989 is a country album. The same reason all her albums sold well.
