Cayman Records purchases all Radio Disney stations but one; stunts them as “Heartbreak Radio”
509 words

LOS ANGELES: The radio world has just been taken aback by the recent sale of all of Disney’s Radio Disney owned-and-operated stations. Cayman Records, a small record label under the Universal umbrella that has previously signed artists Zedd and Ellie Goulding and currently has Ariana Grande on its roster, has bought the struggling group of 23 stations (excluding LA-based KDIS) on Friday, January 9th, 2014. At 12:01 am on January 10th, Cayman Records started stunting all the stations with a continuous loop of Ariana Grande’s latest single “Heartbreak” and re-branded them as Radio Heartbreak. For those of you who don’t know, “stunting” in the radio world is when a radio station plays audio that is uncharacteristic of what it normally plays; this is done prior to switching to a new format. This is often a single song or a few songs on a loop, sound effects, a sneak preview of the new format, a temporary format, an overlap between the old and new formats, or playing Christmas music. KDIS was kept by Disney to serve as the originating station of Radio Disney, presumably so they don’t have to pay as much royalties. However, every other station, including the sole FM station WRDZ-FM in Indianapolis, was sold and immediately transferred to Cayman Records.
It is currently unknown why Cayman Records bought the station. Popular theories include Cayman Records wanting to make a huge push for Ariana Grande, Cayman Records diversifying their interests, and Cayman Records putting an effort in starting a radio network for CAL. Currently, all but one of the former Radio Disney stations (as well as KDIS) are AM stations, meaning whatever goes on those stations is destined to flop, unless it’s sports, talk, or minority programming. Cayman Records could try to sell most of these stations and purchase FM stations to put in their place, but it depends on if people actually want to buy these AM stations. Cayman Records will most likely hold onto both WRDZ-FM as well as WQEW, the New York station, as it is a clear-channel station meaning its signal can often be listened to in many areas of the country at night.
There are currently rumors going around that the Heartbreak Radio format may eventually lead into a format solely supporting Ariana Grande’s upcoming album Keep Me Close. Alternatively, it could switch to a general format for Ariana or just switch to that after promoting Keep Me Close. It does seem like the goal is to either form a new radio conglomerate or to make a CAL radio network.
All stations that are currently licensed to broadcast in HD Radio have now turned on their equipment that allows them to do so; Disney had turned off the HD Radio equipment of 13 out of 22 stations that were able to broadcast in HD radio. Two stations are currently in the process of being certified for HD Radio. Cayman Records seems to already be looking for more stations to purchase, mainly FM stations. The next few months in radio should be very interesting.

When will your fave have entire radio stations dedicated to her latest single?
Also Egle, I think you need to boost the airplay part of the formula for Ari. Heartbreak's getting a crapload of airplay right now

Ariana Grande performs on Good Morning America
514 words

NEW YORK: Ariana Grande stopped by the Good Morning America studios today to promote her new single “Heartbreak.” Ariana is kicking off a major promotional tour across the country to promote “Heartbreak”, which is the lead single from her upcoming album Keep Me Close, which is due to come out in the coming weeks. It is Ariana’s third album, after Yours Truly and My Everything. Despite disappointing sales last week, Ariana is not discouraged. She is still going to try to promote despite running out of time before the CAL chart tracking week ends on Saturday. She hopes to have Heartbreak peak at number one.
During a short interview just before the performance, Ariana gave some background for “Heartbreak”: “The song is about a relationship I had between Nathan Sykes and Big Sean; the media didn’t get ahold of the story at all, but it happened. I won’t mention his name, but let’s just say he’s a major star… Anyway, we were all lovey-dovey for a while. And then, he decides to start seeing someone else while he was still dating me! We made up, but we decided to end the relationship. I wrote this song a few days before we made up. My song New York Lover from Keep Me Close is about another relationship I had during this time that didn’t make it out to the media.

For the performance, Ariana wore the pink version of the Problem-era dress. The performance was outside, and she was with her backing dancers. The beat to “Heartbreak” kicked in, and Ariana started dancing. Her dancers started dancing, and then she started singing the first verse. Ariana was moving flawlessly and effortlessly; she looked like she had been dancing all her life! Of course, the spotlight was on her vocals; she sang the entire first verse flawlessly. However, her voice cracked during the pre-chorus, when she sang “it’s about to go down.” This is understandable, as it was pretty cold and artists don’t always have their vocals on-point.
Ariana then went into the chorus: “Hope you enjoyed my love / cause it’s gonna be gone.” Ariana flawlessly executed the high notes as well as the deep notes, making a dramatic recovery from the mess in the first pre-chorus. The crowd started roaring at this part, and it made it hard to hear over them. However, Ariana kept slaying. During the second chorus, Ariana was picked up by the twin backing dancers and carried around the stage. The rest kept on dancing. She was put down for the pre-chorus, which she slayed so much. The crowd went wild! She kept these hot vocals going through the chorus, where she went around high-fiving all her fans in the audience.
Ariana then sang the bridge in the middle of the stage. She slayed the low notes at the beginning and the high notes at the end. She sang the chorus and outro with no flaws, even improvising some high notes and whistle notes. Overall, the GP loved the performance and want to see more of Ariana on their televisions.

Ariana breaks Nicki’s heart: “Heartbreak” takes the Vevo 24-hour record from “Anaconda
503 words

THIS JUST IN: Ariana Grande has broken a record. In its first 24 hours on YouTube and Vevo, Ariana’s music video for her latest single “Heartbreak” supporting her upcoming third album Keep Me Close has broken the Vevo record for most views in 24 hours, with 25 million views in its first 24 hours. The previous record holder was “Anaconda” by Nicki Minaj, which got 19.6 million views in its first 24 hours. “Anaconda”, in turn, took the record away from “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus, which held it for nearly a whole year with 19.3 million views. This also marks a huge increase compared with the previous record holders.
When asked about this surprising record, Ariana stated, “I have no idea how this happened. I expected it to be huge, yes, but I didn’t expect to debut with 25 million views in the first 24 hours! I have to thank my fans for getting the word out there, and also ABC for promoting my video! I’m just overwhelmed right now… I don’t know what to think… Hopefully this means that more people are going to be buying the single this week! I’ll try to keep the momentum going here. You should all be on the lookout for more performances soon!”
It seems like a lot of people are giving credit to Ariana’s fans and a Twitter snowballing effect for the unprecedented record number of views in 24 hours. Arianators (or Loves, as Ariana herself calls them) used hashtags such as #HeartbreakVideoOnVevo, #HeartbreakOnVevo, #ArianaHeartbreakOnVevo, #WatchHeartbreakOnYouTube, #BuyHeartbreakOniTunes, and #PreorderKeepMeClose to promote the video and its related works; all of these became trending topics. The terms Vevo, Heartbreak, Keep Me Close, Ariana, and Ariana Grande also became trending topics; the #1 trending topic throughout the first 24 hours of the video was #HeartbreakVideoOnVevo. YouTube has reported that most of their traffic came straight from Twitter, with all the links to the video on there.
However, the video’s success isn’t just due to Ariana’s fans and Twitter. The video was initially aired on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. It was also just prior to the ball drop in Times Square, so it got huge viewership. Surely, tons of people headed to the YouTube or Vevo websites or apps as soon as possible to check if the video is available yet; it was made public just after the ball drop, so many people were probably successful and watched the video.
Currently, the video is being extremely well-received by critics and the general public alike. It currently has a 1,000-to-one like-to-dislike ratio. Critics, after first being taken aback by the differing frame rates of the video, now are finding that the choice to use alternating frame rates was the best one, as it makes a clear distinction between the present-day scenes and the 1960s scenes. The GP are also sharing similar sentiments. We reached out to Becky G, who Ariana had a little beef with in the last week, but she declined to comment.

Christina Aguilera performs on GMA
+ album press release

SETLIST
1. Waves
2. Nowhere To Be Found
3. Let Them Eat Cake
4. Chrysalis (feat. Björk)
5. Amethyst Bleach
6. Karmasutra
7. Truth Pill
This morning, Christina Aguilera performed a few tracks from her 8th studio album - Truth Pill - on Good Morning America and held an album press release there in the ABC studios at Times Square. She travelled to New York yesterday with her family and plans on staying there for a few weeks before moving back to California just in time to coincide with her return back on The Voice US for its 8th season which would make it her 5th season on the pioneer talent competition show overall. Even though it was extremely early, Christina still looked as fresh-faced as ever and dazzled in a one piece black dress which was stitched with a special type of fabric reminiscent to that of Egyptian silk. She performed up to a total of 7 tracks from her album - Truth Pill - including its singles, Waves and Chrysalis (with Björk) and even her promo single Let Them Eat Cake.
In front of a crowd of thousands and thousands of people, Christina started off the setlist with experimental power ballad and lead single - Waves - which undoubtedly peaked at a respectable #4 on the charts. This type of success came at a surprise since Christina took a more abstract and indie approach while launching this new era into 2015. We hope Christina dabbles in this sound more even though the rest of her album is inspired by more hip hop-ish beats. Another highlight of the set was the performance of industrial pop Amethyst Bleach which is a gritty depiction of materialism and self-harm. It's definitely new territory for Christina, but in fact we love where it's taking her!
Christina also sat down with one of the female anchors from Good Morning America; a flagship American daytime show. She asked Christina what was her inspiration for Truth Pill this time around and responded with: "It's a really interesting concoction of different, contrasting styles that I'm intrigued and enamoured by. I stepped out of my comfort zone a lot during the making of this record. It's something I feel very proud of and I'm pretty sure that won't change decades from now. There are a few tracks on Truth Pill in which I already feel like they could be singles but I'm still putting everything together and figure out the best way to approach this situation. I'm just glad that people are listening to music and enjoying it and that's something that is totally out of my control and I feel honoured, y'know? The style I have going for this era is vastly different to my usual style so, yes, maybe I will experiment with it a bit more for future eras but I always love being a chameleon and see how everything turns out."
Her appearance on Good Morning America was quite well-received considering it's the first time she went on the show. The crowd responded with a lot of enthusiasm despite it being early in the morning and cold out here. We hope Christina continues to do what she loves to do and wish her the best of luck in whatever she decides to do!

Christina visits the Make-a-Wish Foundation

Yesterday afternoon, Christina Aguilera visited the Make-a-Wish Foundation located in the UK in order to make one kid's wish come true. The girl who requested Christina to come was called Eleanor who has been such a huge fan of the mother of two since she was 5 years old. Well, now Eleanor is 10 years old and is still such a huge fan of Christina which was accelerated by the fact that she developed a form of autism. She was born with autism since birth, however, it was until she was 7 years old that signs of that autism started to show and her parents asked for help from Make-a-Wish Foundation due to it being so severe. During this significant moment in Eleanor's life, she turned to Christina's music (most of all Stripped) and watched Christina's performances and music videos on Youtube. You could say, in a way, that Christina was almost like Eleanor's guardian angel for a while even though Christina was obviously not aware of this beforehand. Eleanor owns all of Christina's records and even collects a lot of merchandise. Her other favourite artist include: Björk (you could imagine her excitement when Chrysalis was released to the world), Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, The Ting Tings and Paige Elliot. Having said that, Christina always remained her favourite out of them all.
Christina actually visited Eleanor in the room she stays in at the Make-a-Wish Foundation and was met with tears and happy shrieks. The entire meeting was a bit overwhelming for everyone involved but was still touching to the heart. In an attempt to surprise Eleanor, Christina her the special edition of Truth Pill which isn't going to be released until sometime next week. This was an amazing gesture towards Eleanor since she simply adores Truth Pill and has been going crazy over wanting the special edition of Truth Pill to fit with the rest of her Christina Aguilera. They hugged as Eleanor told Christina her story and how she practically saved her life. Christina teared up a bit and gave Eleanor's parents her personal phone number so that Eleanor could contact her any time for help of even just wanting to talk.
The Make-a-Wish Foundation is expected to receive a quite substantial amount of donations from Christina's appearance and Christina herself. It's been reported that Christina donated around 3.2 million dollars towards the fund they already have set up there which will benefit the patients who frequently stay at the Make-a-Wish Foundation headquarters in Greater London. This will really benefit them to ensure everyone at Make-a-Wish Foundation is treated accordingly. We assume that Christina will stay in contact with Eleanor and her family and might even visit the Make-a-Wish Foundation again several times in the future. Aguilera has always been charitable, kind-natured and forever giving back to the community who helped her get to where she is to the point and height of fame/success she's at now. It's refreshing to see someone with such a position to be genuine when being charitable and loving to everyone else.

Exhibition dedicated to Björk at the Museum of Modern Art
+ exclusive screenings of Chrysalis and Arete's music videos

Yesterday evening, the exhibition dedicated to the Icelandic musician Björk opened at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. A full-scale retrospective exhibition was dedicated in honour of Björk's artistry and creative mind which has developed before our eyes since her debut. She's only one of few to land her own exhibition, let alone in the Museum of Modern Art which is a really high-profile gallery housing artefacts and other pieces. Her 2011 record, Biophilia, was mostly responsible for this move due to it being released alongside a series of interactive apps; the first of its kind. These apps were permanently inducted into the Museum of Modern Art's collection, meaning that they can't be erased once inducted by those who look over and observe the establishment there. This just comes as one of many feats that Björk has wondrously achieved over the years with this exhibition being the pinnacle on top. She arrived at the exhibition's grand opening with the mayor of New York who specifically resides in Midtown Manhattan where the Museum of Modern Art is located and where Björk now lives in after moving from her homeland of Iceland.
The exhibition is celebrating how much Björk has pushed the boundaries of music and visual appreciation through her ground breaking music videos and the images that she has created each era ever since her debut. She will attempt to top that with her upcoming 9th studio album which is yet to have a title although, from what we've exclusively heard, it's another great one! Björk is a true visionary and it's amazing that this is now being recognised on such a broad scale. The exhibition will now be open until seen necessary and pieces of artefacts from Björk's career will continuously be added over the years. We can expect a complete re-haul by 2017 when the Museum of Modern Art goes under compulsory maintenance with a few changes to the actual building itself which is reminiscent of the Renaissance era.
In addition to the honourable exhibition dedicated in Björk's name, the exhibition's site also held exclusive screenings of the music videos for both Björk's duet with Christina's second single - Chrysalis - and Björk's own lead single from her upcoming era, Arête. The music video for Chrysalis has already been released although it has been put as "unlisted" until after the exhibition has been completed. In comparison, the music video for Arête has not been officially released yet so that was a great surprise welcomed by everyone at the exhibition especially when taking into consideration that the exhibition is commemorating a large proportion of Björk's contributions to the visual media side of things.
Björk (who's pretty much fluent in English even though it's not her native tongue) gave a short and succinct speech thanking the Museum of Modern Art personally for doing such a thing as this. She also took home an award for a music video she did in the past, Unravel, which is from her bold Homogenic record back in 1997. Her infamous swan dress that she most notably wore to the Academy Awards in 2001 and on the cover of her 2001 record Vespertine will also be featured at the exhibition as the main centerpiece, in fact.

Bjork performs on VH1 Storytellers
+ performs Arête and Chrysalis with Christina

SETLIST
1. Arête
2. The Stoics
3. Chrysalis (with Christina Aguilera)
4. Test of Endurance
5. Sweet Agony
6. The Cynics
7. The Swan Song
Last night, Bjork performed on VH1 Storytellers - the second episode of this new season. Her labelmate Christina Aguilera already did her own VH1 Storytellers as the premiere episode of the season. This was Bjork's first television special broadcast and centered only around her. The stage production was quite high budget, taking a total of 72 hours to set up just in time for the multiple sound checks and dress rehearsals before the actual live show. Yes, this time it's all live! Before these VH1 Storytellers were all pre-recorded and televised accordingly but now a brand new has been set in place that each special has to be completely live although backing tracks are allowed, nonetheless. The Icelandic musician had several costume changes throughout the show and each outfit was brought in by her team tailored to fit her needs. It was extremely stripped back, a change from what we've heard that could be vastly different from the studio versions of these songs. Her upcoming album is expected to have urban influences while still maintaining that distinct "Bjork" sound she has played up to ever since the start of her wonderful career as, not only a singer, but also an artist.
The entire setlist was heavily surrounded by the concept Bjork's going for this era with her 9th upcoming studio album. It seems as though she has taken a lot of inspiration from Ancient Greek philosophy. Having said that, Bjork assured us that her next record won't only focus on those side of things and will branch out into broader topics that link back into thoughts and a very introspective perception of life. She performed up to a total of 7 tracks from her 9th upcoming studio album, including singles - Arête and Chrysalis with Christina Aguilera. Just a heads up: Chrysalis will indeed be featured on Bjork's album since it's a duet between the two and not just a featured collaboration.
One hightlight of the VH1 Storytellers special was the transition between Test of Endurance and Sweet Agony which was a really intense section of the show. Test of Endurance is a raw and gritty depiction of "just enduring" and proving something to yourself while Sweet Agony takes that agony and turns it into something sweet, albeit the same message but just conveyed in a vastly different way with a vastly different approach. It was an incredibly nice contrast between the two especially when taking into consideration how closely linked these tracks are together. However, they are not redundant and only brings even more of their own charm due to how they both have different perspectives on the same matter. Of course, the performances of the singles - Arête and Chrysalis) are always the riot with Christina Aguilera herself joining her newfound friend to replicate the eclectic music video on stage. The Swan Song is a definite throwback and reference to Bjork's swan dress that she wore to the Academy Awards and on the cover of her soothing record Vespertine back in 2001.

Quick question - since I've not been here for the first two weeks, are there any rules that I should know? Is there a max word limit for articles or something this season?
