had Céline's 'A New Day...' flopped, the thought of a Vegas residency wouldn't have even occurred to Britney (let alone the dozens of other lengthy-residency acts).

Pretty much the most informed post in this thread.

Celine wasn't the first popular act to hit the strip but I thought it was well known that she made the Vegas residency hot and bigger than it ever was.

Yes. Britney opened Vegas up for younger acts and that's an undeniable fact.

No. Celine did. But the fact that J.Lo & Mariah were in talks to start a Vegas residency not even a full year after Britney did one says something about her. She didn't start the trend but she continued it.

The original shows of that leg were all smashing and the demand was so high they added extra dates. All of the those extra tickets sold is simply more money for them, they didn't care whether they all sold out when the were getting more money than they originally planned. It wasn't until Britney started her groundbreaking show that the likes of j.lo and mariah and bruno and I believe katy was rumored for a bit too, began looking to Vegas.
