Y'all trying to discredit this achievement. Selling over 10% of an entire genre is impressive and for a genre that only accounts for 2% of the industry, Cheek To Cheek still managed to be 1 out of just 30 albums to go gold in US last year not to mention outselling mainstream releases backed by hits and airplay that account for most of the album industry's sales.
How much did 1989 sell in 2014? I wouldn't be surprised if it accounted for 10% of pop albums sold
i doubt it , there are so many pop artists (indie included) and even more urban artists like rihanna some how become bunched into the pop genre , but im sure 1989's % is high too.
