I hope you're not mistaking what I meant. I'm not saying that anybody should have gotten off or that this should have been ignored. I mentioned it because it's true. The victim was so drunk that she had no idea and nobody told her. She had to find out by seeing video of it on social media. Which is gross.
My overall point was that everyone involved with the situation, bar the victim, was an idiot. But they were kids. So while their punishment may seem like they got off easy, it's better to rehabilitate somebody than it is to take their life away. Being free, they can hopefully put their lives to good use and inspire change in people. Something that would be harder for them to do if they spent the next couple decades in jail.
