She is just playing the game in a different way. The music industry can be very shallow and "it" can happen for you one second, and neglect you the other second.
Rita is trying to build an empirium, a brand. It is not so much about Rita the singer, it is more or less about Rita the business woman and if she goes on this way, probably Rita the entertainment/business mogul in the future.
Labels these days don't invest loads of money anymore in their artists, while music is more of a business than actual art these days. With gaining money from endorsment deals, diving into movies and the other things she has done and is doing. She creates buzz for her music, but beside that she also creates a budget to be able to have enough $$$ to do certain things, that her peers are not capable of.
