You using black artists to get a 'pass' for being mediocre is a very bad example. Look at Beyoncé. She has great vocals and a great stage presence but yet she gets called overrated, fake, her dancing is 'her shaking her booty', her skin tone is often attacked by racist comments such as 'bleaching', her child even gets attacked but yet look at white mediocre artists like Katy Perry who (practically) get a pass. For what? Beyoncé has to work twice as hard to earn respect and a place in the industry, all black artists do.

True. She's just used as a scapegoat because many feel oppressed and want to blame an example...she would be the example of why many urban artists are not successful or have to work harder and longer...according to the urban community.

Well If I had an illness I'd care more about the illness as my priority and deal with the symptoms later; however, many won't deal with the illness because it's a challenge. It's easy to address the symptoms doesnt mean addressing the symptoms will cure the illness.

WHERE I DRAW THE LINE is when mainstream artist use things and disrespect them by making fun or a parody of something.

When they not only show their influence but give credit to their influence I can respect that because artist urban or not are not always into giving credit for influences and some have a challenge with showing their influence in an honorable way.

I could see some mid west guys forming a "rap group" to be a youtube sensation and rapping about the most offensive things and that being an issue.

It was created as a cultural art form and is associated with a specific ethnic group, yes. And way too often white people have historically attempted to erase people of color out of their own cultures and then proceed to profit off of them without actually giving any ****s about the origins of it.

It's offensive that when Blacks perform their own music styles, fashions, trends, etc, we're treated like thugs and not given credit, but when Miley starts twerking and hiring black friends, Iggy starts rapping, suddenly they're given awards and treated like they've done something innovational.

So the reason why people are concerned about why artists like Iggy are not speaking up during situations like Ferguson and Eric Garner, because their silence sends the message that they're willing to be "down" with black people when it's benefitting them, but as soon as any real issues that affect our community arise, they dissociate themselves and prove that they don't actually care about Black lives at all.
