Which Hot 100 #1 single of the last two years do you think was the riskiest?
Take into consideration:
-Departure from normal/signature sound of the artist
-Different (or "left field") on mainstream radio
-Unorthodox nature
Choices
Locked Out of Heaven
Thrift Shop
Harlem Shake
When I Was Your Man
Just Give Me A Reason
Can't Hold Us
Blurred Lines
Roar
Royals
Wrecking Ball
The Monster
Timber
Dark Horse
Happy
All of Me
Fancy
Rude
Shake It Off
All About That Bass
Blank Space
I don't know how to judge tbh. A lot of them weren't released in order to reach Hot 100 #1 but they surprisingly did. How could it be risky for something they weren't meant to achieve?
I would vote Dark Horse from this list, but the GP basically made it a single by itself and Capitol had no choice but to go with it. It wasn't really a risk they took. So yeah nothing really.
