I see where people come from with Iggy but all seems so shallow to me, people didn't care about her when she was underground. And I don't think she really is racist, she just doesn't understand things very well I guess.

She does not have to acknowledge her priviledge to anyone. We already know she has it. And I find someone like Mackelmore to be exploitive of social issues. That was the main reason why he won those Grammys.

Macklemore has said that he too has worked for years and years, but he knows and understand that he has white privileges as a white rapper. He will never dispute that rap is a culture that started with oppression , he can only listen and learn.

Basically, by acknowledging the fact that rap is an integral part of black culture and that he has white privileges , people have kinda given him a chance.

Amethyst on the other hand thinks she's a victim in all this, because she's a white woman doing "black music" which is really disgusting from her part.

But one thing I don't get though is that people giver her flak for being super successful only because she is white. I get the racist accusations because she did say some messed up stuff but she isn't critically acclaimed or anything... I don't think she is doing better than Nicki for instance so how is she slaying because of her skin color

First I don't think she's racist, she's a bit careless if anything. It's all about perspective, we cannot understand what we haven't experienced. She can attempt to, however.

I agree with what your saying honestly. I do... She should address it but I honestly think she just doesn't want to bother too BC of the way people present it to her. People try to mask their dislike for her with the issues when the real reason they don't like her is BC of trivial Stan ****. I respect where you're coming from... And you have a point..

I'm just saying that a lot of people (including many people in this thread) don't even consider her a rapper and consider her songs to be pop and not rap/hip-hop, and while her color may be an important factor as to why she has been successful, let's not act like that's the only reason. The GP must think that she is at least somewhat talented if they are buying her music and her record label must have seen at least some talent for them to sign her. Let's not act like every white rapper/singer out there is becoming instantly succesfful just because they are white.
