This. None of us know her personally but the fact that she takes her time, goes online on tumblr, twitter, IG etc. everyday, interacts with her fans, literally studies them is so applaudable. Like, you can't tell she doesn't enjoy doing all of this, can you? In every note she wrote for the fans there's an inside joke or sth, all the gifts are perfectly selected. She literally remembers most of them by names. Which relevant artist other than her does this kind of things these days? None.

Katy comes close.
Although she isn't that calculated as in "he told Swift if she wanted to sell 500,000 albums, she’d need to meet 500,000 people". Back in her gospel days, Katy Hudson sold 200 copies and she realised that nobody would know about her existence if she didn't go out and promote the hell out of it. Her own experience with meeting her faves, showed a stark contrast between a good fave and the bitch who broke her dreams about that person. Therefore she should be a good fave.
Before the fans brought money to her, the fans were the only persons appreciating what she does and told her to continue. The industry said no and no and no at everything about her
(means that the peers, the label people, critics, industry, award committees,... are most of the time wrong and she is not playing by their rules) and tried to change her into an Avril, a Kelly,... When they didn't know how to put her in the market
(while not listening to Katy's plan) and couldn't afford another label unlocking her into a superstar, they tried to held her hostage and let her rot away in hopelessness. Back in those days, she looked at her Myspace page like "At least there is 1 soul on the other side of the world believing in me.". Her pre-fame fans have that Taylor-like treatment: she takes them to diner, let them loose backstage
(just knock to get in her dressing room),... but more in private and less publicized.
There are traces of her forum posting all the way back to 2001. In 2008 she videoblogged a lot about what she likes, how she reacts on things like first time hearing IKAG on the radio,... later she went on Twitter, Instagram,... At the Warped Tour you can meet her at the merchandise stall.
Her CDT M&Gs can be won by posting in the right topic on the forum or by doing other contests. She let her fans calm down and spends time talking to them. It can be creepy when she address you with your Twitter nickname 3 years later and can tell how your body has changed since last time. When she was too tired to come out to the M&G room, it was an upgrade by letting the fans in her dressing room. The amazing M&G stories in the fanbase are keeping the dream alive.
She explained in her movie how much pressure CDT put on her and made us understand why she will take it more easy this tour. The amount of M&Gs isn't what it used to be, but she is consistent by also not offering them for sale. She spent less time on the paid M&Gs and most on those won on the forum. She probably noticed our complaints about the kid
(not a fan) in the class annoying the **** out of the Kats because her rich daddy paid her a M&G. She still shows up at the gates outside TV studios, radio stations,... for pictures, signing and talking to her fans.
Looks like Katy may have finally met her match.
I

for Taylor's hard work, effort, building her brand by going out and be there for her fans. Such faves are rare.

I wouldn't be surprised if miley and selena friendship was PR. It's funny that in her fearless documentary they made it seem like she worked to get signed. Daddy bought the record label she's in now

It's a huge advantage when daddy can buy a label/team believing in your plans/concept/ideas. Then you wouldn't have to "waste" 7 years like Katy did
(she learned a lot about the industry, dealing with people, contracts, building character,... and did what young people do without cameras pointed at her all the time). They tried to push Katy into suicide, thanks to an employee in her previous label who couldn't keep watching the torture, Katy's files were stolen and smuggled to Capitol. Without the employee doing the ethically correct thing, my fave would probably be six feet under or still rotting somewhere.
Like with everything in life, it's 50% choice and 50% luck. When you can buy/manipulate luck, it's much easier. There are plenty people stuck in crappy contracts
(You can sell a million albums and get paid $1000 because they can invent all kinds of fees to be deducted. Or having 100 million dollar touring gross and paid less than 1% of it.) or labels who aren't doing useful things for them. When your dad own the label, he can make them giving a good contract or improving an existing one, make them work for you,... and not diverting the resources toward some other new artist they are trying to make it happen.
