Since U Been Gone is one of the top 5 most remembered songs of the 2000s. Pretty sure everyone on the planet has forgotten about Girlfriend!

SUBG in the USA, no idea about WW. But I still hear SUBG playing at parties and everyone goes wild.

I mean, Since U Been Gone obviously has the acclaim and impact on music.

But Girlfriend's hook is still referenced to this day and everybody knows it.

SUBG was never actually that great or that widely beloved, despite all the critics' constant praise. It's thoroughly average in every sense and is remembered today as just another Kelly single. Girlfriend, on the other hand, signified a HUGE (if brief) comeback for Avril. The chorus is eminently quotable and the song as a whole is sort of iconic.

I'll never understand why everyone latched onto Since U Been Gone when Behind These Hazel Eyes, Walk Away, and Miss Independent are clearly superior in every regard.

SUBG by far. More impact, still referenced often today (sung on TV singing competition shows, Pitch Perfect, still used as a comparison for new breakup anthems, etc)
