One of those songs that you love the first time you hear it IMO! A splendid blend of synthpop and alternative rock. Made me a deMarco fan for sure.
• • • 39 • • • G.R.L. • Ugly Heart
This pop masterpiece was too good to flop, but I digress One of the catchiest songs of the year and very easy to scream if you're an upset teenage girl (which, hey, I think we all are at least once in a while).
• • • 38 • • • Lana Del Rey • Florida Kilos
A full-force cocaine song by Lana Del Rey? Demoted to bonus track? Thoroughly unsurprising but this song is probably one of the more excellent surprises to come out of the Ultraviolence era. Untame and wild Lana at her best (Ride who?).
• • • 37 • • • Perfume Genius • I'm A Mother
Mike Hadreas can be my mother, pls. This song is so fascinatingly dark and stunning. Stuck out like a sore thumb the moment I heard it and it spoke directly to my soul. It's like a demon of love communicating through song.
• • • 36 • • • Jhené Aiko • Limbo Limbo Limbo
Opening anthem on her fabulous debut, Souled Out, this twitchy R&B-tronic song moves my heart and soul like a robot. Every lyric feels distant yet infinitely intimate. It bottles up the essence of Jhené almost perfectly although this song generally gets overlooked compared to the rest of her album.
• • • 35 • • • Shakira • Empire
I don't really think anyone was expecting Shakira to make a song (and accompanying album) with this type of sound: not only is it timeless, it's beautiful and suits her voice excellently. Also, it's crazily inspiring to me. Yessss Shaki.
• • • 34 • • • Fifth Harmony • Sledgehammer
I always had a glimmer of faith in 5H and BO$$ was a low key bop, but this effortless and unapologetic pop HIT is too breezy and catchy to deny. 2015 is their year, y'all!
• • • 33 • • • Beyoncé & Frank Ocean • Superpower
The most underrated song on her phenomenal self-titled makes its way to the Top 40 on my year-end: yes, it's from 2013 - no, I don't care! I didn't like Bey or Frank Ocean before this song. That's different now.
• • • 32 • • • Brooke Candy • Opulence
Okay, well Brooke can maybe do better, but it's pretty impossible to deny the caliber to which this song knocks. If she brings it just a little harder than this next time around... she's up to bat. And that video... y-e-s.
• • • 31 • • • Tinashe • Feels Like Vegas
Well, I surely wasn't expecting this good of material from Tinashe (she makes 2 more appearances in the remainder of my chart) and I was thoroughly pleased with her presence in 2014. This slow-moving, sensual R&B jam could not be better. Single in 2015? Probably not. Would it work? Better than Pretend.

Shakira isn't a masterpiece but there are few good bops.
5th Harmony, I need them to happen so badly. They are so talented. They deserve a successful career
