A schizophrenic Florida man was arrested after police say he decapitated his mother with an ax on New Year's Eve.
Christian Jose Gomez, 23, has been charged with first-degree murder of Maria Suarez-Cassagne, 48, according to NBC affiliate WFLA.
Gomez reportedly told investigators that he plotted to chop his mother's head off for two days because she was "nagging" him about storing boxes in their attic.
Gomez killed her in the family's garage before dumping her head in a garbage can, according to the station. His older brother found their mother's body.
"She was a really good mother," a relative told WFLA of Cassagne. "And Christian was normal until like age 20 – I think when he was diagnosed."
Gomez confessed his crime to the sheriff's office and was denied bond Thursday, according to Fox 13.
Fox 13 reports that Gomez was previously held for examination, under the Florida Mental Health Act, and according to WFLA, he had been arrested for loitering, disorderly conduct and resisting an officer in the past.
