Yep Katy has 6 with no rerelease. If you count the rerelease she has 8. If you count State Of The World as a single as it was Top 5 in Hot 100 Airplay she has 8 as well. Not all of them had rereleases as rereleases have only recently become a thing.

So to compare apples to apples Janet wins as she had 7 top 5 cd singles and an additional top 5 airplay only single all from a single album release.

Katy had to add new tracks an rerelease album. Janet did one release and the tracks were strong enough to stand the test of time. To be fair even Billboard counted Katys rerelease as a separate album.

It was actually harder back then for Black artists.

Absolutely NOT, It's WAY easier now. Having a sales #1 back then didn't guarantee a top ten Billboard hit. You needed good airplay too. However these days you don't even need to have an airplay hit to go top ten on the Billboard if it's a nice sales hit.

The fact that the two MJ albums there in sales are higher than the lifetime sales of all other artists listed, some by just one of those albums!
