Last year I had a Bubbling Under list that contained 10 songs. This year I will post a Bubbling Under list that contains 20 songs.
120. Taylor Swift - Wildest Dreams
Track 9 on 1989 is about Swift hoping her lover will remember their best moments after they’re over. Taylor did a great homage to Lana.
119. Austin Mahone - Mmm Yeah feat. Pitbull
The song is essentially about Mahone’s insistent catcalling. It has a nice hook and it's pretty catchy if you ask me.
118. Nick Jonas - Jealous
Jealous" kicks off with a round of steady drumbeats, setting the listener up for an emotional music rollercoaster. Jonas is all about protecting his own honor and keeping all his girlfriend's suitors away from her. But there’s more to Nick then just, well, jealousy.
117. Maroon 5 - Maps
In “Maps” you get to hear some familiar musical traits of Maroon 5 circa early 2000s. The song begins with an easy, breezy guitar rift and Levine's signature high register vocals lamenting a relationship lost, despite his beau and his plans to draw out their life together. With his singsong melody over the relaxed, plucked guitars and subtle drums, Maroon 5 create a chill vibe before building the song into something a bit more powerful.
It is another very catchy song that incorporates many of the same musical elements firmly establishing a signature sound for the Meghan. This song won't blow anyone away, but it is a solid second act.
115. One Direction - Night Changes
The contemplative lyrics, penned by Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson, shows maturity and growth in the once perpetually lighthearted boy band. The rich harmonies in the chorus, backed by rounds of "Oohs" give the song added depth and a big contemplative feel. Cute music video.
114. MAGIC! - Rude
Rude" fits very comfortably on to sun-splashed summer pop playlists. There's no real depth here, but it is pretty refreshing to hear the reggae beat again in mainstream pop.
113. Ella Henderson - Glow
The production on the track is once again outstanding. The instrumentation and build up are very subtle which gives way to Ella’s smooth and soothing vocals to take the limelight. I have to say I am impressed by the quality of the tracks Ella put out so far.
“Masterpiece” is a throwback of sorts to Jessie’s Who You Are album in that it’s addressed to her haters and is a genuinely good pop song. “You haven’t seen the best of me, I’m still working on my masterpiece,” she sings/threatens in the chorus.
111. Giorgio Moroder - 74 Is the New 24
Great track! Can't wait to hear the music he made with Britney!
110. The Fray - Love Don't Die
It’s interesting to note that bands such as The Fray and One Republic are criticised for being similar to one another and it can be pretty much confirmed that Love Don’t Die, The Fray’s latest single does have some influence on OneRepublic’s musical style. Although, that should not be a deterrent from listening to the song because if listened to more than three times, you eventually grow into liking the track.
109. Azealia Banks - Chasing Time
"Chasing Time" is a hook heavy pseudo-sung track that rides the line with hip-hop and pop over some crisp house production. Great job!
108. Bebe Rexha - I Can't Stop Drinking About You
A dark, devastating (and autobiographical!) heartbreak anthem. If Rihanna or some other major pop girl sung this, it would definitely hit #01 on the charts.
