Other examples include the man who shot himself in the head with a 'spy pen' weapon to show his friend it was real, and the thief attempting to purloin a steel hawser from a lift shaft - and unbolted it while standing in the lift which then plummeted to the ground, killing him.

Dr Dennis Lendrem, of the University of Newcastle, said: "Idiotic risks are defined as senseless risks, where the apparent payoff is negligible or non existent, and the outcome is often extremely negative and often final.
"According to 'male idiot theory' (MIT) many of the differences in risk seeking behaviour, emergency department admissions, and mortality may be explained by the observation that men are idiots and idiots do stupid things.

Every generalization is actually stupid. Men are not idiots. Some men are. Women are not idiots. Some are.

This article is really offensive and sexist. I honestly don't care about their 20 years research and evidences. Saying that men are idiots is as sexist as saying women are.

sexism against men causes hurt feelings. sexism against women causes their rape and murder. not comparable. too many men are idiots and that is the problem

well it does seem like whenever somebody does some idiotic, a majority of the time it was a man. I think women tend to think things through more whereas men are just like "**** it" and do it without thinking of the potential consequences.

Saying sexism against women is more violent, doens't condone sexism against male at all!! We were talking about this specific article. I'm not gonna condone the violence against women!!!
Saying that men are idiots is as wrong as saying women are.

The problem is that there are too many violent men that abuse women. But they still are a minority compared to the category totality. But this has nothing to do with this article.

I'm sorry you can't see that and you can't condemn every form of sexism, violent or not, against women or men.

I think the problem is that men simply don't value their own livelihoods. From birth we're taught that if we don't end up rich and powerful, we're pretty much disposable. Men are the expendable gender, after all.

In fact, just to add another layer of tragedy, let me point out that risky and/ or reckless behavior is one of the most commonly observed symptoms of suicidal people.
