Ofc it is drama, just wasn't aiming to be "drama-heavy". even the scenes that were supposed to be dramatic and fast-paced were handled moderately, and kind of short-lived. Esp. the 1st step-dad scenes, they could have made mason's debacle seem far more tragic, and with ease -- given the situation.

What's "drama-heavy" for you? The way I see it the movie was straight-up drama from beginning to end. It just didn't want to manufacture big dramatic moments in order to be realistic even though it failed a few times. Just because it didn't have scenes one would conventionally define as a dramatic climax in a film doesn't mean it's not a constantly present element.

Marina's voice is so nice.
Her range is incredible.

The most dramatic film I have seen though has got to be "Dancer in the Dark"

hmm, drama-heavy seems to be self-explanatory. But I was referring to the big fast-paced dramatic moments, which Boyhood steers away from at every given chance.

but yeah, right on. The movie was trying to keep the "tragedy" element to a minimum, for that exact reason; to capitalize on the realistic nature of the concept of the project. But it kinda kept me wanting more in that aspect......

Not all big climax moments are melodrama.
