@ASF: Aw, well that's good that some of their music at least caught onto you. Yasss, Karmin has always been underrated yet has absolutely slayed musically. @Amaloner: @Already Gone: Ch I just lost a little respect for you @holyground: DISGOSTANG @Sunderland 4ever/jomarr: dd a lot of people did/do since the name sounds like Carmen, which could insinuate just one person. But nah, they're an amazing, married duo. Nick is featured more on the newer album, though. @Pedro: @Slayley: Don't really like them as much, their album was alright but yeah. Pompeii is amazing, though. You'll see them on Best Songs! @LoKoPaNdA: Everything Karmin did this year was a bop They can do no wrong. @prezli: Stan, henny! @igor: Aw I do agree they sold out quite a biT but I still enjoy all sides of their music, whether it's pop, pop-rock, adult alternative, etc.
Another day has passed, and another is ready to start. With that being said: let's get things started.
Also, just to note: I know I've been flopping at commenting on other Best Ofs, but there's just so many that I haven't had the time nor patience to jump into them. So I'll be doing a little Comment 4 Comment thing - if you comment on mine, I'll do so on yours! If you've posted already then you're on my list (I'll be starting that later, by the way.)
This is DAY 5 of...
Today's performer has been known for years, but especially broke out in 2014. After sitting in the background on Nickelodeon's Victorious, then becoming the leading lady for her 2013 debut. Now, she officially became a force to be reckoned with a slew of massive hits. To perform one of them, this is...
Best Soundtracks
Best Album Survivors
Most Annoying Songs
Best Collaborations
+ some more Ari!
Soundtracks usually aren't my cup of tea, with most of them just featuring scores or songs by artists I don't care for, but this year brought a few more that were actually worth hearing.
3. The Fault in Our Stars Film: The Fault in Our Stars Grade: B- Best Track: Boom Clap Weakest Track: Best Shot
Overall just okay, features a few cute songs here and there as well as some standouts from Charli XCX and Ed Sheeran.
2. Mockingjay Film: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 Grade: B+ Best Track: All My Love (feat. Ariana Grande) Weakest Track: Plan the Escape
Though it doesn't really fit its source material most of the time, the Lorde-curated soundtrack features plenty of great talents coming together and creating amazing material.
1. Frozen Film: Frozen Grade: A- Best Track: Let It Go Weakest Track: Vuelie
An adorable soundtrack for an adorable film, all of the songs are fun and enjoyable, but also unfortunately on the shorter side. Even then, the cast still proves their acting and singing abilities with these memorable, family-friendly tracks.
The Mockingjay soundtrack is great! and the Frozen soundtrack is my favorite of the year too!
The Fault in Our Stars... I haven't heard that one, but I love the Charli & Grouplove songs and the movie was nice
On ATRL, the Games section is immensely underrated and provides plenty of great survivors, tournaments and more. That part of the forum is basically my life, so it gets extra love this Best Of season. These are my favorite Album Survivors of the year based on things such as presentation, activity, effort and results. ATRLers need appreciation, too!
5. FOUR Artist: One Direction Thread:Here Host: prezli
I love the background photo and how it's so chilled in the back with a low opacity so that it doesn't pop out and make things hard to see, and it actually fits the whole theme of the survivor, too. Everything works and looks nice, and the survivor hasn't finished yet but a lot of amazing tracks still remain.
4. Britney Jean Artist: Britney Spears Thread:Here Host: Pedro
Following the same concept of the Femme Fatale survivor with the individual photoshoot pictures for each track, it's obviously amazing and it's also great how each picture was changed to red when they get eliminated. Most of the actual game went nicely but I'll never forget when Til It's Gone missed the semi-final.
It might be rather simple but I loved the color scheme and other small details. This survivor went especially great because a ton of the standout tracks went far.
The color scheme, the background, everything looks amazing and so far things are working out fine with a few of my least favorite tracks leaving early on.
1. 1989 Artist: Taylor Swift Thread:Here Host: castle13
Okay the OP alone isn't just one of the best OPs I've seen in a survivor, but of all time on ATRL. What an absolute work of art and I love how it's so beautifully styled and organized, includes explanations and the beautiful Polaroids. Legit a masterpiece just like the album is, and the final four are pretty accurate fan favorites.
@berberocka: Yas you always know how to make a great game @Pedro: @castle13: Oop, slay iT!
This is among the new categories to my Best Of, as well as the only negative one in the whole ceremony. I don't get annoyed with too many songs, but this year there were a few that just really put me over the edge when listening to the radio or viewing the charts. These 5 are those songs.
5. Take Me to Church Artist: Hozier Annoying Meter: 60%
Though I like the message of this single, I don't care for Hozier's voice or the whole vibe of it. It sounds very eerie and even though I like slower songs, this one is just TOO slow. You legit can't do anything except sit and listen. It's not beautiful enough for me to cry or upbeat enough to make me dance. Don't see the appeal, but luckily I haven't been exposed to it enough to have it fully irritate me.
4. BO$$ Artist: Fifth Harmony Annoying Meter: 70%
I've never cared for Fifth Harmony at all except for maybe two cute songs, but this one was even more basic than the others. The verses are okay but just like their usual songs, it's filled with fluff, a few messy lyrics, and a hint of desperation for a hit. The chorus is immensely plain and brings nothing new to the table with their style of music. Seeing this all over Vine got old pretty fast.
3. Happy Artist: Pharrell Williams Annoying Meter: 75%
We've all went through the Happy phase this year. Either liking it or not, then watching it get overexposed and played every 5 seconds on the radio, then having it stuck in your head whether you wanted it there or not, and finally leading up to a strong distaste towards it. It really was way too overrated and shouldn't have been the massive success it was, but it's the only song in this list I can somewhat enjoy. After all the craziness has subsided, it's not bad, it just got to the point where you literally couldn't escape it.
I don't know if this song was overplayed for you guys, but I'm in Florida and this almost got as bad as Happy here. During the Summer it was absolutely non-stop, and it was one of the only songs I actually FEARED coming on the station, and I remembered the beat in the beginning as a signal to turn it off. It's just incredibly standard and I know that mainstream music has plenty of generic lyrics, but this has to be the #1 song for that. I think every single line has been in another hit and Enrique just decided to wrap it all up into... this.
1. Let Her Go Artist: Passenger Annoying Meter: 100%
Now let's not forget quarter 1 of 2014. I know this song is loved, and I can kind of understand why, but I just really didn't like it. Like Hozier, I don't like his voice. Like Fifth Harmony, I thought it was kind of plain. Like Pharrell, it was significantly overrated. Like Enrique, it was my station-changing song. It's just a big no from me.
