Never doubt the possibility. They could be bouncing back and forth song samples and demos with other producers, writers, collaborators, etc. via email. We just might not be aware of it.
However, given everything that happened with Madonna recently, artists should just not put ANY of their unreleased/unfinished work on servers and keep everything offline. That's how Watch the Throne was released without a single leak (well, there was a LQ leak of a couple songs that someone recorded with their phone but that doesn't count really).
