You're right. Rihanna does get a pass, when her music really is no better than Katy Perry's music. They both are the type of artists that only have roughly two to three good songs per album, the rest are just filler -- probably why they're friends, they share common traits. The difference between Rihanna and Katy Perry is that Rihanna's music and videos are not pandering to tweens and she's not making her tours a Disney channel children's show, that's why it's easier to overlook Rihanna's genericness, i.e. "At least she's being a 'grown-up,

rih and katy aren't even comparable. rih has a rich back catalogue of great songs (by prerogative of the amount of material she's released slightly). i mean, i may be one of few people on atrl who admit that unlistenable is trash but katy doesn't have anything nearly as great as numb.
she has like, what, spiritual, birthday, lfn and hot n cold. rih has that on rated r alone
