"Second Chance", "7/11", "Boom Clap", "fountain", "Baby Don't Lie" and "Rattlesnake" were all great! This Yumi Zouma girl looks promising, I may have to listen to some of her other music. Really good start overall.
A beautifully arranged electronic track that provides a cool atmospheric feel, sounds perfect for a late night car drive. It's both different yet reminiscent of The XX's songs and style which makes it especially interesting because its a fresh take that still holds the best elements of The XX. I really can't wait for Jamie xx's solo album coming out in 2015!
89 A: Natalie Prass S: "Any Time, Any Place"
Its a super white girl cover of Janet's classic. While it takes out what made the janet. original so great - its sensuality and powerful stormy feeling - it offers something kinda interesting. The whole aesthetic is almost a coffee shop girl type song with little jazzy elements throughout. Her voice is really sweet and I hope she releases an album soon.
88 A: AlunaGeorge S: "Supernatural"
I was unsure of what AlunaGeorge would be able to create for their next album especially since they have somewhat of a signature sound. "Supernatural" is a prefect progression combining the electropop stylings of their debut with disco-esque vibes. Its a joyful track that definitely has me hyped.
87 A: Lana Del Rey S: "The Other Woman"
A really underrated album closer and one of my top 3 from Ultraviolence. The grittiness of the production and her vocals makes it feel like a found track from a 1950 soundtrack. However, she avoids the 'nostalgic trope' by offering a heavy hitting emotional delivery.
86 A: Wild Beasts S: "Past Perfect"
One of the most addicting tracks from their album, the bouncy yet mystical production makes it feel like the perfect meld of indie and pop. I think this is one of their most easy-listening type tracks and I'd definitely recommend it (see if you can get it out of your head!).
Sounds like it should be for Rihanna but it actually works really well with Sia. The anthemic style is used a lot on her album but none of the tracks hit as hard as this one. Her vocal is perfect here - not too overwhelming but still strong.
84 A: Angel Olsen S: "Windows"
Every track on her album is a little piece of lyrical perfection. "Windows" is the perfect album closer, extremely emotional sonically and through her delivery.
83 A: Grimes (feat. Blood Diamonds) S: "Go"
Another meant-for-Rihanna that was done better by someone else! Grimes is actually perfect for this kind of pop sound and I imagine her doing an album like this would actually end up being really really good filled with high quality pop anthems. I guess more people prefer her experimental stuff.
82 A: Beck S: "Unforgiven"
Perfect example of a Beck track from his album. Lovely lyrics, great instrumental, this is his first of THREE tracks on my list.
81 A: How To Dress Well S: "Repeat Pleasure"
A funky style with electronic beats rooted in an R&B feel. One of three tracks from his album that actually stood out and was memorable for me. I like the almost Dev Hynesish feeling too.
