After the latest Danity Kane breakup and low selling albums and EPs, the former Making The Band cast-member decided to sign with independent label Blackheart Records. “I felt really uncomfortable with being on my own label, I felt like my career wouldn’t go anywhere unless I was backed by a label.” Dawn said to our editor. Dawn also announced that she would release an album that “tells two stories” “The album would be called ’83, because it’s such a personal record, and it’s a part of me.” Richard told us that she’d been writing this album since 2006, and waited for the perfect time to release it. “I released three other projects before this one, only because I never felt it was the right time, it’s now or never.” When asked about the sound of the album, she smiled then said, “It could either be R. Kelly’s 12 Play or something like Beyonce’s latest album.” The influences for the album are: Janet Jackson, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Monica, and Tinashe. According to Richard, there are a few collaborations on this album, but she wouldn’t give names. The album’s release date is January 5, 2015, and her new single Hall of Flames will be released Monday
