I remember reading about this in 2011 after the Tohoku tsunami because people were comparing the two. The combination of India not being a developed nation and the tsunami's strength and proximity to the country proved lethal.

I still get chills from the many documentaries ...

I had nightmares back then. And even today i can't go near the ocean (when i go in vacation in that area) without being stressed out, it's crazy.

I know, I remember this documentary about a couple that was on a holiday in Thailand I think and they went on a deep sea diving trip right before the tsunami hit (so thankfully they were safe). But when they got back on shore everything was destroyed. The footage they recorded of what they saw was just unbelievable (in the worst sense of the word).

I was only 13 years old when this all happened. I remember it being all over the news. My mother prayed a lot for all the people who survived and were missing and to those who died could rest in peace. I live close to the Caribbean sea and it always makes me nervous to think something like this could happen to my hometown. We had a tragedy in Venezuela during Christmas back in 1999 due to the rains.

It was more Sri Lanka than India, but I remember how tragic it was because our neighbours at the time were Srilankan and seeing their devastation just made it so much more real.

I still remember those 40m tsunami swept everything on its path. My friend's father was lucky enough not being killed by those monstrous waves. It's so ridiculous since he ran away almost 15km from shore and the tsunami still reached his feet

The sight of countless bodies washed all over the devastation is something i'll never be able to erase from my memory, it's etched into my soul, that image is all over the internet to this day and it frightens me to encounter it again someday, I can't imagine how the people who had to pick up the thousands of bodies continue to live with that to this day.

I know people who went there on a vacation when this happen, they lost their 3 year old daughter Vivian in this tragic event! RIP <3
