World's Largest Fingernails Snapped in a Car Crash
Lee Redmont, from Salt Lake City, has apparently not cut her nails since 1979. They consequently grew to a combined length of more than 18 feet - or 8.5 metres. Their 30 year-run was, however, recently cut short by a car crash.
Ms Redmont suffered serious injuries in the crash, but is expected to make a full recovery. A local newspaper reported that she had been a passenger in a SUV at the time of the accident.
Ms Redmont's record-breaking longest nail was on her right thumb and measured 89 cm - or 8 ft 11 in. Guinness World Records stated that her nails, now irreparably damaged, had been "a fundamental part of her life and unique character"
