"Shake It Off" is trash. It appeals too much to the Beckys in the Valley and too much of a copy of past hits. "Blank Space" is definitely better, so are a bunch of songs on the album.
You are right. "Style" is the best song on the album. That's why I was perplexed that "Blank Space" was single #2 but evidently it is doing great things for her image and the public enjoys it (I don't).
Out of the Woods is the best song on 1989, dunno why more people don't get behind that song. It should have been the follow-up to Shake It Off. Would have been perfect for Winter with a snowy-outdoor themed music video.
She could have even capitalized on the 'Harry' snowmobile accident in the video for more press.
Don't get what you're saying confused with the reality: Katy can write/sing pop songs that are specifically catered toward as many people as possible. She knows that, she does it well. And she likes the paychecks.
I don't see anything wrong with that.
Katy knows her music is commercial. At least she doesn't pretend she's releasing some holy hymns
It's kind of funny because PRISN had the chance to be bigger than Teenage Dream but her team literally did the worst possible single route Birthday and This Is How We Do put a knife thru her career and 1989 dragged it down her chest. BAI.
There's something about Katy's music that's so...Katy. Granted, all artists have a signature sound, but there is something about her songs I can't place.
There always seems to be something elementary to her songs -- is it the lyrics? But other artists' lyrics aren't stellar, either. Maybe it's her staccato singing?
I really don't think Katy even had a real theme for this album era except lots of colors
It was all so confused, but not as more than Teenage Dream as people make it out to be. I mean how do Firework, E.T and The One That Got Away fit into the candy theme?
The thing I find icky about katy is that even her slow "relatable" songs sound like nursery rhymes to me. Spit my soda listening to Double Rainbow like omg girl you are 30!
She hasn't wrote a real ass song since Thinking Of You, at least imo.

Exactly. She's never really taken herself nor most of her music seriously(sans a couple of songs from each album).
I have a feeling that's gonna change on the acoustic record.
