The guitar basically SOLD me, I don't even care about the rest of the song. It's so early 80s.
134. Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings - "Making Up and Breaking Up (And Making Up and Breaking Up Over Again)"
Some Motown inspired Soul music with a ridiculously long and repetitive, but super memorable hook. I want more of this.
133. Mariah Carey - "One More Try"
Mariah does a great job with a George Michael classic. She chose the right song to do justice.
132. Gain - "Fxxk U"
A smoother, Loungey sounding Pop song about domestic violence and rape. It's kinda dark but the only english lyrics are "**** you, no means no." It's dark but brings a catchy light to an important issue.
131. Pharrell - "Come Get It Bae"
Definitely the biggest JAM from G I R L. A nice guitar hook with some vehicle related double entendres.
"Slightly Floating" is eerie, almost formless, and completely different from anything Trust has done, but "Geryon" really feels like the first real track to Joyland. If you like modern Synth-Pop and don't like this song you are a crazy person.
129. Lykke Li - "No Rest for the Wicked"
Lykke seems to have developed long-chorus-itus. In this song however, it works pretty well I suppose. It's kinda Dirge-y, but not totally.
128. Cold Cave - "Black Boots"
His voice is so deep and echo-y in this song. It sounds so good. I guess it appeals to a certain type of person though.
127. Neneh Cherry - "Weightless"
A distorted guitar is the basis for this song's verses, but it lets go during the chorus. Definitely the hardest hitting song on Neneh's new album, but it works well because her voice ends up sounding confused and lost (which is like, what the lyrics to the song are about) so it totally fits.
126. QT - "Hey QT"
The criticism that this is just a generic pop song with chipmunk vocals is literally the most vapid thing I have EVER READ. Well, not really, but still. It's sort of like a simplification of Electropop tropes with one of the biggest earworms of the year. It's definitely not Sophie OR AG Cook's most innovative or creative song, but that doesn't mean its existence isn't justified.
