The term "icon" and "legend" is thrown around very loosely in the music industry and it is meant to hold a lot of weight for one's achievements in the industry, but I've been thinking: There are alot of artists from the past that are considered to be icons or legend but are overshadowed by there peers and have more of a lasting legacy. For example, which artist is the world remember more in a hundred years: Cyndi Lauper or Madonna. Prince or Michael Jackson? Elvis or Little Richard?
And you have a lot of artists today who already overshadow the careers of past icons and legends. Ex: Beyonce> Diana Ross.
And considering the fact that as long as humanity lives we will have countless music stars, I don't think anyone is going is going to remember a lot of them from the past unless the literally changed how music is perceived by the world and we'll have lists like "The 100 greatest musical legends of all time."
My question is: When our modern pop stars decline and a new wave of artists come about (could be 10,50,100,1000 years from now), and possible innovate music ,which stars have the biggest chance of having their legacy overshadowed?
See TvOne's Unsung or some of the artists I mentioned in this thread.
I appreciate your input but I was talking about modern stars. For example, I believe Katy, Rih, and Take could possibly be overshadowed in the future considering the fact that their music and iconography aren't groundbreaking.
