This is the reason why I have a problem watching Selena half lip sync THWWIW on stage while standing there crying and saying "thank you Jesus" when she literally did not write a single word of that damn song. However, I hope Selena can prove me wrong when she releases under Interscope because her music is but lbr, it could be sung by anyone.
With that being said, I do not believe this was directed at Rihanna. I feel like Rih definitely has vocal talent and brings something special to every song she sings and occasionally writes.

Selena has writing credits on THWWIW, i don't know where you get your info from that said, you as a Katie stan shouldn't be coming for anyone's vocals or songwriting ability

Just Dance,Alejandro,Hair,Born this way etc. beng good songwriting

"Just Dance" is a seemingly light song with dark undertones that, as the fans would later find out, conveyed the events and helplessness she felt when she was a victim of rape.
"Alejandro" is agreed by critics to be well-written.
"Hair" is perfectly written from a teenager's perspective and demonstrates the insecurity and pride in individualism of adolescents, and the bridge slays.
"Born This Way" is a no-hold-barred, brash self-empowerment anthem.
They're all good, or at the very least, accomplish what they set out to do.

I agree with her, she's right. I think you've got to have something impressive about you musically to be passable as a legitimate artist....whether you write your own music, or you have a fantastic voice. If you can't do any of it, what's the point? It's like when Paris Hilton tried to do music.

I hope she stops downplaying others artists someday. She is great, but she doesn't need to put other people down. Humility is a virtue.

She makes a really good point but she should know better in this day and age not to make statements that allude to other pop rivals. That doesn't spread her message of positivity and it's really none of her business if these other "artists" have any proper talent. She needs to focus on her own thing.

I completely agree. If you can't write and you can't sing, what are you doing in that industry? I feel the same about artists that don't write the majority of the time too, regardless of vocal ability.
Only thing I disagree with is her last comment about her fans. She has an unhealthy relationship with them. Being an artist is about making music, not scoring a league of devoted fans. She cares way too much about that aspect of her career.

Why Selena but not Rihanna, when Selena has writing credits on her latest top 10 hit, with less co-writers than any Rihanna song?

Then why does she take pics + throws praise @ Britney everytime she has a chance? But she's known for being a hypocrite so what's new

Gaga is talented but she thinks that she is godly, which she isn't. She bileaved her own hype and that caused her to lose her sences.

Pointless justificatins.
"My ***** tastes like Pepsi Cola" does not become a good line just because her boyfriend said it to her same applies to your examples.
They might be personal to her or purposely simple and straight forward but still badly written inmy opinion.

She has "additional writing credits" which basically sums up about the one word change she probably made to some obscure word in the middle eight. Point is, Selena did not write the bulk of the song and had little input in the process. Which honestly doesn't matter because she is known for writing basically no songs on her albums and her limited vocal ability, although she has improved a lot.
I didn't come here to talk about Katy, she has nothing to do with this thread as she has proven multiple times that she has both of those talents.
