Mick Hucknall has not held back when it comes to his opinion of the music industry.
The Simply Red frontman, who celebrated 25 years of his band in 2008, attacked the current state of pop stars who rise to fame for covering other artists.
"The people I admired were artists first and celebrities second." Says Hucknall in an interview with The Daily Telegraph. "They were celebrities because of their talent."
"I've become allergic to what's happened since the 1980s. There was a shift to fashion and to overlooking the ability of the person to achieve anything. We went into a zone of ordinariness."
"You can get tired of being in an industry that's basically become a karaoke competition."
Next month Mick and Simply Red will embark on their last ever tour together and tickets for some shows can still be purchased. Their recent "Best Of" collection Simply Red 25: The Greatest Hits is out now.
