Ugh. Except Lincoln "liberated" the slaves for political reasons, not because he 100% believed in the cause. He owned several slaves himself. He only issued the Emancipation Proclamation because he realized that having black soldiers under the impression of freedom if they fought for the the Union was the best way to gain a larger army. In reality, many slaves found themselves not liberated because the proclamation didn't apply to border states, even if they were loyal to the union, and many slaves didn't know it only applied to the Union, so slaves from the confederate side fled home, and in most cases, either got caught and punished severely, or they got returned to their owners once they made it to Union land. The 13th amendment was first passed by congress and several states before it actually made it to Lincoln. In fact, it shouldn't even have gone to Lincoln, since presidents never sign amendments. It was literally just for show and end his presidency well. Heck, even congress said is signature was not necessary and null. Sorry, but people give Lincoln too much credit for **** he didn't do.
