Great set! I only decided to give Ariel Pink the time of the day like this week and "Put Your Number in My Phone" immediately caught my attention. The rest of pom pom is quite cool, too. Food I got tired of rather quickly. LP1 was simply amazing. Such a groundbreaking debut.
It seems to be the general consensus on here that The Golden Echo & Little Red were disappointments. I definitely prefer TGE to the first and I think that LR is just as good as Katy's debut, even if there's no Witches' Brew.
LP1 is definitely my favourite from this set. For sure one of the most consistent albums released this year.

I liked FOOD, loved pom pom, obsessed with LP1 and I need to listen to the Cakes mixtape (even though I've never really cared for him). Neneh's album was alright but kind of disappointing tbh.
15. Liars - Mess
Liars created a sort of Post-Punk/Dance hybrid that I really liked. It goes from hard hitting Dance beats to fuzzy guitar-created textures. The hooks of the songs are often repeated throughout the entire song on many songs and create a whole hypnotic sound, but there are also some with some very complex structures near the end.
14. CEO - Wonderland
This album pulls out all the Indie-Pop tropes, pretty much, but it's soooo good at it. It has those instant ear-worm songs, the breathy, less danceable songs, and of course, lots of Animal Collective and 80s influence. So like, it's works pretty well in my opinion. The lyrics verge on sort of meme-isms at points, but I kind of encourage it, because why not?
13. Hundred Waters - The Moon Rang Like a Bell
As much as I get on many artists' cases for being super boring and blah, I'm surprised I don't do the same for Hundred Waters. Their songs have slow moving melodies and desolate, empty sonics. The match of the vocalists hopeless voice and the almost magical/mystical soundscapes leave me breathless! On the latter half of the album there are more vocal hooks too (as opposed to instrumental ones on the first half). At times I hear small hints of European folk music, too, which is the beeeest.
12. Khia Shamone - LoveLocs
Khia released her FIFTH album this year! I can't believe I've been a fan for so long but she honestly never disappoints. This album contains a lot of smooth R&B that showcase her rough, yet intimate vocals (think early Kelis) and then Hip-Hop/R&B crossovers influenced by Janet and maybe Brandy (I sorta feel some Brandy on some tracks). It's a diverse offering otherwise and shows that Khia is never satisfied repeating her tricks.
