She wouldn't be whining about white guilt if she were in Beyonce's position [who is overrated by white America because they need a token black star to worship]. This is all about her and the fact that she's a struggling artist.
The way I see it is that I am not a racist person. My support in all things is equal to each race, I never make jokes (unless the other person does as well and they and everyone else present are comfortable) and I would never dream of disliking someone or excluding them from anything based on race or anything other than their actions/words/attitude toward me and my friends.
She needs to realise that I was not a slave master. Sure, my ancestors may well have been. But that is not me. While I'm buying her records I don't expect constant references to how I'm a monster (not Gaga fan) because I'm white and my great-great-great-great-grandfather owned African slaves.
I agree with the whites appropriating hip hop thing but this is different.
That's kind of how I feel about this Iggy thing. She wants Iggy to feel guilty about her success and I'm like "why?".
Exactly. I UNDERSTAND her point of view. White America is worshiping these WHITE stars in hip hop. But the stars themselves really aren't doing ANYTHING wrong. It's more of a problem on society itself. But I kinda guess that's what she's saying here...
I can't be held accountable for every white person on the planet, past or present. And not all white people are the same, much like black people aren't all the same.
It's 140 characters so who knows what she really means, but turning tables isn't the answer - equality is.
