Albums being "pointless" is only something that a singles artist would believe. Sadly, the gherls lately do make 'albums' as just a means to an end for their 3-4 singles, and listeners can tell. There were plenty of full, strong albums that were released this year.
Well this is interesting and admittedly I'm surprised that will.i.am is saying this, despite the fact I really shouldn't be surprised that will.i.am is saying this. He's said before that he doesn't like the way we can go on iTunes and just pick and choose individuals songs to download from an album.
I just hope BEP manage to release their project in a way that's memorable and doesn't feel disposable. From what he's saying in this interview there seems to be a lot of risk for their material to be a quick flicker in the pop scene and disappear as quickly as it arrived.
I feel like he'd have a different opinion on albums if his solo album did really well.
That said, I hope he doesn't try to be all revolutionary, only to end up ruining BEP's legacy tbh.
And I HOPE TO GOD that he doesn't like at this 'project' as a new solo project cause I'm not here for futuristic stuff that isn't even futuristic.
You guys realize Will.i.am is probably saying this because he himself as a solo artist does not sell albums? & I'm pretty sure the other 2 guys (and Fergie if she actually releases a new album) aren't pushing much units with their albums either if they have some.
But that's a smart move, honestly. I feel like they might get moderate hits at most. Nothing to pull a whole album project of money spent on.
albums are only a 'waste of time' for people who aren't artists. will.i.am is so irrelevant / inconsequential that it doesn't surprise me that he feels this way, especially after how his albums faired commercially
No one wants an album form Will.i.am anyway, so no loss here. I understand why he feels this way, BEP spent years trying to make "real hip hop", but only found success doing pop stuff.
I don't even want new BEP music right now, I need solo Fergie first. Then you can come back with some BEP stuff that is not weird. I need less will.i.am and more Fergie, and Tab and Apl should at least be included in more than bit parts.
