No, he didn't. He was blamed because he was a black male. Period. The girls could have gotten lost, died in some accident, or abducted by someone else. But HE gets blamed because they ask him, a mere child himself mind you, for directions or something.

Regardless of all the facts of the case and what really happened, many black men have been framed (and executed) for crimes they did not commit all through the history of this country. That's in addition to black people in general being killed for no reason other than racism. You honestly believe the same racist system that would acquit white MEN who literally beat a black BOY to death (Emmett Till)? I'm sorry your history classes failed you, but that's the truth. And to piggyback on this. If you've never heard of Emmett Till, I'd advise to look up his story and take a good look at his picture after he was killed. That will tell you almost everything you need to know about how brutally racist this country was and can still be.

Cases like this + inadequate legal representation + the precedent it's set for the government to kill citizens are some of the many reasons why the death penalty should be abolished.

I don't think anyone should be killed. Murderers and Psychopaths are part of society and need to be taken care of = be locked away.

But the goal of penalty should be resocialisation, not punishment and revenge. As seen in this tragic case on point.
