It's especially apparent with the "Bitch, I'm Madonna" idea in general and some of the more "mature" aspects of the record - that aligns with MDNA's theme, while others like "Illuminati" and the entire Secret Project sub-era are reminiscent of American Life in theme and some of the demos match AL sonically. And it's a wise move on her part, honestly - AL received major backlash in the US that nearly ended her career (again), but it was a brilliant album and it was both cohesive and thematically ambitious.
