Girl commits suicide because she was scared of "coming out"
Quote:
The parents of a teenage girl have spoken of their anguish after she hanged herself over fears of telling them she might be gay.
In the months before her death, 14-year-old Elisabeth Lowe, known as Lizzie, had confided to friends that she thought she may be a lesbian, an inquest heard.
Her friends said she was scared of telling her parents and had struggled to reconcile her feelings with the family's strong Christian faith.
But Lizzie's father said her fears were 'misplaced' and that she would have received a 'wealth of love and acceptance'.
This is so sad, poor girl. RIP.
I understand that her parents would have been supportive - and that not all Christians are homophobic - but it's horrible to think that religion can play a part in someone's decision to end their life, because they don't think they'll be accepted.
Um yea, I doubt she just up and killed herself because she just randomly decided that her parents wouldn't be ok with it. Not trying to villainize them, but they must have said or done something to make her feel they wouldn't be accepting of it. They seem to be trying to save face because I don't know how she could feel they would be so unaccepting she'd be better off dead when they'd allegedly be supportive.
Her parents say that now, but they might've made homophobic remarks in the past or said/hinted some things that made her feel uncomfortable with herself and that she wouldn't be accepted by them. Unfortunate situation.

omg poor her I hope she rests in peace in heaven now.
she should of told her parents..seen their reaction and if they did not accept her then she should of found other solutions not kill herself omg so young...I am so sad for her and her family
i just read the full article...these parents were so ignorant...they also seem so much more concerned with not looking "evil" or "unsupportive" then they are of their daughters actual death.
also them saying that being a tomboy is a big sign of someone being lesbian..and she was much more of a boy then actual boys? like WTF is this ignorance. they were definitely the type to push her into thinking they are unsupportive. I feel so much for htis poor girl
