This has happened before. I remember Crystal Castles said the beat to Ayo Technology by 50 Cent/Justin Timberlake/Timbaland ripped off one of their songs, but it turned out that the beat came from a sample pack.
I guess when a song blows up some people think it's worth a try since if they win they can make lots of money off the big hit. Either that or they might have forgotten they used free samples to make their own song in the first place.
