I remember I had hosted a dinner party for friends, it had winded down and I was cleaning up and getting ready for bed when all of a sudden my phone was blowing up with texts about a new Beyonce album. Cut to me downloading it and staying up all night watching the videos
In one fell swoop she just won 2013, it was just a massive pop culture moment there's no denying it. One of the biggest events in the history of music.
I remember finding out on ATRL actually, when I was lurking. I saw the thread with the artwork and tracklisting and just thought "how the hell did I miss the promo?". Then I realised she purposefully dropped it without any promo or announcement, I just laughed at the insanity of it all. I downloaded straight away and remember bawling at the PH video like an absolute mess. Then got my life to Mine and Haunted before I came to love all the other songs just as much.
I love how the media and headlines are celebrating the one year release. This album is truly apart of pop culture and will go down in the history books forever. Changed the game.
I had seen the new Mrs Carter Show Poster - so i thought something was coming, but I never expected what came I remember waking up in the morning and my sister telling me that beyonce released an album in the night - I didn't beleive her I said there is not way she would do that without any promo, i turned on the TV and BBC Breakfast was reporting it. I went on itunes, bought it, but there wasnt enough space to download it so I tried deleting things only managed to download a few of the videos. I watched them on the Underground on my way to university. watched the rest at university on a computer everyone was talking about it. to this day I remember the feeling of when i first watched pretty hurts. I could have died there and then and I would have been happy I had been waiting ALL year for it, and it was more than I could have ever imagined. at first I was worried about the sales, and that she wouldnt get her 5th #1 album, Then as the day went on and I found out she'd sold 450k in one day (in the us) my worries were dashed
