Okay at how my sister is 25 and she left the kitchen a huge mess. She has wrappers and containers and stuff all over, like I know mom is gone on a cruise until Monday but that doesn't mean you need to make the kitchen a legit pig pen, especially when I want to use it as well. I think she went to the gym for a little bit and I had to clean up some of her stuff because it was seriously so cluttered in there. We have a basket for recyclables and a trash can, did she forget to how use them?
Ugh... my family really baffles me sometimes.

Just watched Annie, it was okay. Damn, movies really haven't been that great this year. My "Best Of" list is gonna be more like an "Eh, it was alright" list. Horrible Bosses 2 apparently got uploaded in HQ online so that's another one to add to my list to watch.

ugh, I know. It happened because the gif is almost 1,500 frames long and I kept saving it periodically through the creation process; so, now it's all awkwardly compressed and grainy. I didn't notice until after I had saved the gif and closed out of Photoshop. It took me soo long though, and I just can't be asked to go through it again. I'll probably make a new one tonight.
Annie was alright, but it didn't live up to my expectations. I was expecting something huge like The Wiz's take on The Wizard of Oz, but that really wasn't the case. They did a pretty poor job revising a lot of the songs and nearly butchered them. I mean.. I liked the music, and the soundtrack will be charting rather high on my Best Of- but I know that they were capable of doing a lot better. Greg Kurstin has a very distinct sound, which works for the most part, but his issue is that he doesn't know how to do any other sound; with that, a lot of the music in this movie sounded tired on the first listen. Jay should have just done the entire soundtrack instead of only lending himself to Hard-Knock Life.
As for the film itself, they did a really great job with the modernization and getting it to connect with today's generation. All of the actors really captured the campy, over-exaggerated nature of the original Annie broadway show (and the 80s movie) which made me happy. Cameron Diaz was my favourite, she NAILED Miss. Hannigan! Overall, it was a pretty cute film and I thoroughly enjoyed it beginning to end.
but yeah, you're right about this year being quite boring in film. Lots of the movies in the bottom half of my Best Of are terrible and only there to make sure the number of films matches up with the other two categories. Last year was so strong with Frozen, Star Trek, Hunger Games, Gravity, 12 Years, American Hustle, Gatsby, Saving Mr. Banks etc. etc. If I did a Best Of last year I would have had a hell of a time trying to decide on my top 5, but this years selection just came to me instantly, there was really no question what they would be.
I am having a bit of a tough time choosing my #1 though there are two really great films that I'd like to be at the top. They kind of have a similar "[impending] death/dying" theme, but one is much, MUCH darker than the other.
Also, what would you say the general rule for film festival films are? There's one that I'd like to include in my list that did film festival rounds in 2013 but wasn't released to the public until 2014. Would you say that's acceptable or?

noT 1,500 frames. Couldn't you use the "Limit to every [2] frames" thing or something? Probably would've made it a little easier and quicker to do. I don't know.
Yeah, I thought Annie was going to be a lot cuter and all. It was sweet but there were a few awkward moments in there, plus I wasn't too impressed with the soundtrack, it sounded cute in the trailer(s) but the full things weren't too stunning. Plus there were maybe two or three songs that I simply didn't care for at all. Oop, yeah, Jay did a great job with the tracks he contributed to and he really should've taken care of it all. I did feel that Tomorrow was a little odd and choppy compared to the original for sure.
Yasss they really did make it so modernized and I loved it, it definitely fit right in and moved the movie + story along. Though it did get a little much in the end when it was like "Oh, we're using social media to find Annie!" It just felt weird. I loveeeed Cameron Diaz in this, she was pretty funny and managed to get some legit laughs out of me, she totally got the crazy and messy character in it spot on. I saw some people hating on her and saying she's gonna get a Razzie (wouldn't be surprised, though) and stuff but I was pleased with her performance.
Mhm, your description is so spot on. I already know my top 5 without even thinking about it, last year (even though I saw more movies this year than last) was harder to choose from and had a nice crop of selections. There's plenty of fluff this time around that was either okay or just not that great, it's quite a sad thing to see.
Oop. I think my #1 is around a 97% while my #2 is maybe a 93%/94%. Both are great but I was just so impressed with the one that'll top it (unless I watch one that somehow manages to go over that before the year ends, since I still have a few more to view, but I highly doubt that.) Good luck with that decision, though. Maybe you can have a tie. Or maybe the darker one should get it since it actually has more to it.
I'm not sure about festival films. I barely even watch any. I'd say the actual date it went into public theaters should be the indicator, though I'm including some films from late November/December that I didn't include because I saw them too late or something so either way goes. It's your list, anyways, so I don't think anyone will care or judge.

See, the problem with limiting frames on older videos is that I always feel like they come out a little choppier since the frame rate for cameras back then wasn't nearly as high as they are today. Like, me doing every 2nd frame from an older Billy Joel video wouldn't look as smooth as say, a Till The World Ends gif that had every 2nd frame skipped. idk, most people probably wouldn't even notice the lag, but I'd know it's there.
Agreed with everything you said about Annie. Tomorrow had a great little finish, but the start of it was sooo awkwardly composed. I wanted to be getting shivers and wiggling in my seat like when I watch the 80s Annie, but that was only the case for maybe two songs.
omg, I completely forgot about them tracking her down through Twitter updates at the end. Cameron was honestly the highlight of the movie for me, she managed to make me laugh in almost every single scene she was in. She may have been a bit camp/over-exaggerated, but c'mon, it's a children's comedy musical no one could have possibly watched the film expecting an Oscar-worthy performance. She did the role exactly as it was suppose to be done.
I wonder what your #1 could be lemme check all your reviews in the What Movie Did You Just Watch thread and see what the highest score was. That darker film will probably be #1, it really moved me in a way no other film has. I watched it again yesterday and am watching the other potential #1 with a friend today (bc he hasn't seen it yet and wants to include it in his Best Of, too) so I'll know for sure by tomorrow which movie will be topping the list.
Very true. I don't watch a lot of film festival movies either, I'm not really into the whole ~artsy fartsy~ films scene; but sometimes if one really grabs my attention, and I have nothing better to do, I'll throw it on. There's only two in my Best of. They are both pretty high though (like, top 14), so maybe I should check 'em out more often. My new year resolution.
