I dont know how in NY. But to supply all essential amino acids, some vitamins (especially B12), some minerals (all what meat contains in the same proportion as we have in our body) from natural products, becomes really financially demanding, especially for students. You should also eat certified products, because genetically modified ones with intransparent production are probably not the good ones.
And probably the biggest reason why all people wont become vegetarians - taste. Great steak is probably the best meal you can get, at least for me.
