I also think our way makes more sense as far as holidays are concerned. 10 weeks of school > 2 weeks of holidays > 10 weeks of school > 2 weeks of holidays > 10 weeks of school > 2 weeks of holidays > 10 weeks of school > 6 weeks of summer holidays.

I can't imagine having two 20 week semesters and then 3 months of summer off. Summer holidays would be so long and boring. And by the time you went back, you would have forgotten half the **** you learnt.

In Australia, middle school doesn't exist. You have primary school (elementary school) which is kindergarten to Year 6 and then you have high school, which is Year 7 to Year 12. Middle school and high school are integrated here.

But considering how embarrassing year 7-9 were, I kind of wish they separated them here too.

In New South Wales teachers also specialize in a certain faculty, so i.e. history. Then they can teach history for any class range from year 7 to year 12. (13 yr olds to 17 yr olds) they don't have to teach only year 9 classes like you have to in America. You can also teach across faculties, so example teach English and a language like Italian or English and History, etc...
