Her underperformed singles helped a bit

Dark Horse was absolutely massive. It's fair based on the Hot 100, plus Bey's lead on albums wasn't as strong as Katy's lead on singles.

Dark Horse alone is bigger than Bey's 5 quick little singles released this year.

YASS at 1D getting multiple #1s on the Hot100.

People just underestimated Katy's power this year but it's nothing new.

It's quite annoying how she got blocked by One Direction though but good to know she's the #1 SOLO artist!

I won't engage in another Hive-Kat war, but:

Albums and tours aren't the only things that factor into the artist rankings.

Because radio play is weighted very heavily. Album sales hold little weight on Billboard while tour sales and radioplay are considerably more important to them.

It would be nice if someone more competent than Billboard would compile these lists based on sales>streams>radioplay>tours, in that order.

For starters Yonce didn't give a **** about any of ha singles while Katheryn was giving away cakes to get radio and consumers to use ha.

Where is the logic?

She only got blocked because she only got 70% of "Dark Horse's" points to her name. Juicy J gets the other 30% for being a feature.

Isn't Katy TEA higher than Beyonce? she also has better radio play and streams.

Not sure about touring though, idk how much Bey grossed in this year.

Just because Unconditionally, Birthday and TIHWD underperformed doesn't mean they don't count. All those singles add up. Plus, Bey and Taylor really only released 2 singles a piece at most. Plus Prism is one of the top 10 best selling albums of the year. And, radio is weighed more heavily in 2014, and Dark Horse of course. Roar also has points that cross into 2014.

The focus was selling the album. The only single released to pop was XO. DrIL and Partition were only urban, the latter NOT even having an official release so she still only released 2 singles. 7/11 and Ring Off obviously came out far too late to have impact on 2014's year end chart. Don't try to make it seem as if Bey really cared about making them smash...

Dark Horse and 100 million dollar North American leg touring gross.

Prism was a decent seller, but the singles dominated.
Beyonce was a good seller, but the singles faded.

well BB's methodology is erroneous and a joke generally. atrl should stop treating it like it's a bible. Katy is a singles artist and beyonce is an album artist.

Queen Perry is bigger and better.
