With Street Fighter V being exclusive to the PS4, and Ultra SF4 making it's current gen debut next year also exclusively on PS4, it begs the question: Why was Sony willing to fund and co-develop the new installement in the Street Fighter series? Why not other franchise?

No girl. Sony reached out to CAPCOM and offered the deal, so it was actually the Sony execs that were interested in SF, not the other way around. Why?

A company being open to being bought out doesn't mean that they're going bankrupt. Marvel, Facebook, Twitch, Youtube, etc have all been bought by other companies and they were all rich.

Sweetie you know the answer to this question. Street Fighter is one of, if not the most iconic fighting game franchise in the world. It's arguably more important than any other IP they (Capcom) have imo, so why wouldn't Sony scramble to secure an exclusive deal for (this iteration of) the game?

It'll boost PS4 sales by a huge margin in Japan as well.

I wish they'd secure an exclusive deal for the Onimusha franchise though... I need a new Onimusha game...

Edit: The console exclusivity might also have been made because neither Nintendo or Microsoft were willing to help fund the production of the game, while Sony was? I do remember reading Capcom had around $150 million US left in their bank account, and maybe that was a cause for concern for the two aforementioned companies?

because Sony has no iconic franchise other then the Wannabe Man-LARA Croft and even then its still not iconic. (the Katy perry of video Games Franchises tbh)

1. Street Fighter is indeed very iconic and a legendary franchise in gaming, but it's not CAPCOM's biggest IP, Resident Evil is.

Your latest point is null, because even if CAPCOM was going bankrupt, they still would've made a new SF since it's one of their biggest cash cows and the SF games are ALWAYS huge sellers, not to mention Sony reached out to CAPCOM to fund the game, a risk they wouldn't take for every IP since other fighters wouldn't warrante success and to get their money back.

Capcom didn't have the money to start the full production of the game Sony helped them and now the game is console exclusive for the ps4

Sony probably wants the only Capcom IP that's profitable anymore (since Monster Hunter is basically Nintendo's)

Yes, there appears to be a lot of discussion around this idea of what happened. Kind of like what happened with Nintendo and Bayonetta I believe.
