Should black history month be stopped? It sort of divides it from regular American History. Maya Angelou said something interesting about it.....

“We want to reach a time when there won’t be Black History Month, when black history will be so integrated into American history that we study it along with every other history”

Well I guess my thing is why does it have to be just a month? It should be intergrated into US history curriculum as a part of American History and studied throughout the year. In school for me black history month was only studied for like 2 weeks and that's it, I think separating black history into a month gives the excuse not to study it as much as the rest of American History because its all crammed in.

I think people are taking it the wrong way.

The OP means that instead of dedicating one month to Black History, it should be taught throughout the entire curriculum.

We should have an entire year dedicated to black history.

Well being that they barely teach anything in school about what black people went through for ages, it needs to stay. We deserve way more tbh.

no it should not just be a month. our education needs a completely new curriculum that will integrate real history and facts, which includes black history. but what we really need to do is rebuild our country completely.

It's more than important enough that it deserves to be part of the curriculum BUT really cool things can be done when the whole school is on the same subject at the same time.

In middle school, we were randomly labeled purple and green and took turns being the opressed. We segregated water fountains, bathrooms, books, etc. They even did things like not giving the greens enough seats in their section of the lunch room. It really was a great learning experience and I wish more schools would do it to increase sensitivity and understanding.
