Sam Smith's album is cute, but not AOTY material. It had no real impact on music or the industry. Beyoncé should win. It's would be beyond ridiculous if she didn't.
ARTPOP has the same metacritic score as Bangerz and Prism yet isn't nominated for best pop vocal album?

I mean, not saying ARTPOP has the best quality but at least if they're praised equally by critics, I'd assume they would put ARTPOP in that category as well.
Critics love SIO. 1989 was a brilliant record and one of the best pop album in recent years. Unfortunately, we can't see its full slayage until 2016 grammy.
Access Hollywood live just announced best trad pop vocal album. I don't remember them all but Gaga and Tony, Streisand, and Johnny Mathis all got noms.
