She was allegedly raped and stayed quiet about it for years, if that's not putting it behind what is? Who wouldn't want to pit that behind? Do you think victims enjoy thinking about it?
And reevaluate your knowledge of the case. What you said is exactly right. They want to get out of the contract, that's why the case is in CIVIL court and not CRIMINAL court. Her allegations are supposed to be her vehicle to freedom. Like someone else said, these emails show its clear they had these allegations all along and that they tried to work things out, but it came to this.
