Toronto is fun but you'll maybe be cold. December in Ontario never sucks that much tho, but it'll be -15 or -20 worst case. be prepared for that.

I am Canadian-American I lived in Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver. I prefer the west if you are going to Visit Canada for something different not just a party. I love Montreal prefer it over Toronto it is a great city. Toronto is kinda over rated as a place to visit your just basically locked in a big city. If your gay the village is pretty good but there is grindr for that now.

The best thing about going up in the CN Tower is you can see New York from there.

That all said the biggest New Years Eve Party's in Canada for the past three Years Have Been "Toronto", "Niagara Falls" and "Calgary" and have been nationally televised. City TV has a big thing Downtown Toronto for New Years with lots of great musical talent and then they switch over to "Calgary" for another party in the West with musical talent fireworks and what not. Its not the same as New York but Canada tries its best and Canada is a Great country to live in.

I live in Toronto and fail to see how it's any dirtier than any other big metropolis...In fact NYC is a lot dirtier.

Also Ontario isn't any colder than half of the States, so while it will be cold on New Years, it's probably not something you won't be used to.

Cute things to do: skating downtown toronto, go up the CN tower to see the heights (it's actually really cool), go to the distillery district and check out some of the cool shops and such

What would you recommend doing? Seeing? Etc. CN Tower (edge walk if possible but that part might be closed for the winter), Ripley's Aquarium, skating at Nathan Philip's Square, depending on how old you are secure clubbing tickets NOW for a big nightclub because they'll be hard to come by closer to the date. Get drunk because we get drunk better than any other country (also: beer jacket helps deal with cold weather, protip). Drinking/clubbing/stripclubbing age is 19+ so... so yeah. Go to Niagara Falls, enjoy the world's largest falls. I want to say frolick in the snow or go skiing or something but I really don't know if there will be snow by then, it's kind of hit and miss. We don't normally have a white christmas... we have a zoo? Beaches? Honestly I just visit Toronto party. What do you like?

Is it FREEZING or just cold? It's just cold, it was 11 degrees (51 F) two days ago... granted it was -18 with windchill (-0.4 F) a little over two weeks ago. You won't know until it's closer to the date, to be totally honest. I've had new years where it's over 10 degrees... many where it's under 0 degrees.. bring a nice thick jacket regardless and ask us how to dress closer to the date!! Mother nature is bipolar here.

What is tha exchange rate? Changes all the time, it's something like 87 cents US for 1 canadian dollar right now. Our sales tax is 13% so keep that in mind when buying things.

Toronto is the warmest town in Canada but it can still be -5/-10 celsius on NYE. Toronto is very boring and overrated, the gays in Toronto are uglees and diseased (my ex lived there and after we got together he told me he had sex with 250 people in a few years there, and he almost gave me herpes).

Yass come to the best city in Canada (S/O to Montreal & Vancouver) .. Dundas square is a lot of fun, basically a smaller Times Square or go to Niagara Falls!

I have yet to go to Montreal for New Years but I think I'll add it to the list for 2015. I'm really hoping the snow isn't going to be like last year, but funny how during the Summer and early Fall we heard it was going to be worse than last year and then last week it turned into shorter and warmer.
